Welcome to Midnight Macabre

Few cities of the world have more name recognition than that of New York City. The Big Apple is the home to some 8.3 million inhabitants, from all nations, religons, and walks of life. Poverty and wealth can be seperated by blocks on a city map, and diversity upon every street. Tree-filled parks struggle against the growth of urban sprawl. The alleys between the many historic hotels, restaurants, theaters and museums are filled with hookers turning tricks, dealers selling drugs or other vices, and the homeless looking for their next meal. The glory of skyscrapers cast shadows upon the cluster of housing projects, and desperation hangs thick upon the air.

In one of America's most historical neighborhood resides some of its eldest citizens. Aloquin Manor was built in Gramercy Park in the early 1840's, one of the first families to take residence in Samuel B. Ruggles' vision. The city, which took on the name of the famous park, grew, and became the home to many famous residents. Even as new buildings and hotels were built, and the names on the census rolls changed, the Aloquins remained. Their friends from the Old World took refuge within the five-story town house, and together they kept to the laws set down by the Ancients. From the shadows they ruled the night, beautiful and fearsome.

Almost two centuries later a lot has changed about Gotham, and those that have been there from the start have had to adapt to the times. Their ancient enemy, the lycanthropes, came over upon the boats with the waves of humanity that sought the promise of America. Their battle has remained to the shadows, a rare agreement made between them for self-preservation, and one that both sides strive deligently to uphold. The Covens struggle amongst themselves for influence over the night life in the City that Never Sleeps. Mortals that give themselves to the city's eternals are protected jealously and loved, and those that are Embraced must meet approval. New technology has been a blessing and a curse, as every building has video surveillance and each person seems equipped with the ever-ready cell phone camera. Unlife has become increasingly difficult, but it has never been better.

A little about this room:

This room is a roleplay that uses a modified free-form of the White Wolf game system. The vampires within, and the others that also call Midnight Macabre home, derive their powers from an adaptation of those rules and system. Please see our message board at www.midnightmacabre.smfforfree.com for more info about game play. Everything a player will need to know is provided there, along with character sheets, and a questions-and-answer thread will help those wishing to learn. Visitors are very much welcomed at MM. We encourage those to watch and ask questions. We ask that all respect this before entering.

With this said, this room will not recognize vampires or powers that are from other systems. This is not LKH/Anitaverse, Twilight, Anne Rice, or any other variant of the undead. While these are all wonderful books, they are not what this roleplay is based upon, and thus will not recognize. Since this is also a free-form of the WW systems all changes and adaptations must be approved by the MM staff. A list of the approved powers will be provided, and updated as the need arises.

Midnight Macabre is set in New York City. In this room vampires, and other creatures of the night, do not flaunt themselves for the public. The flash of fangs will bring about a negative response, by both the mortal world and the Ancients that rule the city. It is wreckless to reveal such power, and it will be dealt with swiftly and decisively. The Coven has survived centuries by ruling from the shadows, respecting the ways of the ancients from the Old World. Those that find within themselves a need to be in the lime light are granted their wish, given to the sun and are utterly destroyed. This is the way for those that embrace this unlife.
